Ipsy - What I Got October Edition

hello everyone, today i will be showing you all what i got in my october ipsy glam bag. i know it's a bit late but with canada post striking it took forever to get here.

so i'm a bit too lazy today to actually go and take individual photos of the products so... i'm just taking them off the ipsy website.
anyway the first item i got, which i'm not impressed with, is the makeup forever ultra hd liquid foundation in the shade y225. first off i don't wear foundation, i don't even have foundation selected on my ipsy profile. second, this isn't my shade, it's too dark for me. third, i don't wear foundation ever. it irritates me skin and really i'm just too lazy to do that step.

next thing i got is this northern lights eye shadow in the shade norrsken no 3 by nomad cosmetics. now ipsy calls this a plum but it's much more pinky than that. it is a very pretty eye shadow though and i can't wait to try it out.

next is this lipstick from oryza in the shade opus. it's a very vampy berry shade which normally i'm not into one me, but this actually doesn't look that bad.

sticking with the vampy theme, we have this nail polish in no 18 from sundays. a nice dark red for fall.

finally we have this olive oil deep cleansing mask from aphrodite. i'm actually curious to try this as i've heard olive oil is good for the skin.

anyway so that was my bag, i wasn't super impressed by it to be honest. if next month doesn't impress me then i'm going to give ipsy a bit of a break. what did you guys get in your glam bags?

Nyx Ultimate Shadow Palette in Brights

hello everyone today i am reviewing the nyx ultimate shadow palette in brights. in this palette there are 13 eye shadows and 3 pressed pigments, though i am not sure which three are the pigments. each eye shadow has 0.02 ounces of product and this is made in china. in canada depending on where you buy this, it can range from $21 to $23.

each swatch is done with just a finger. sadly the eye shadows don't have names. here is the first row.

here is the second row

the third row

and the final row.

i applaud nyx for making a basically all matte palette with bright eye shadows. the colors themselves are hard to get a good formula and then to make these matte. good on you nyx. there are three shades in here that have micro glitter in here, but that doesn't seem to fallout when applied to the lid. when you are using these, if you want these shadows to be pigmented you are going to need a white base. when i first tried this palette i used my usual concealer and the colors were pretty washed out. then i used a white base, like the nyx jumbo pencil in milk and bam! i got color. the shades are quite hard and dry so when you use them you will get a bit of kickback. blending on these isn't the greatest, it takes a bit of work to keep it from being patchy. the packaging on this is really cheap. the little clasp the hold is closed broke on mine as soon as i opened it and will now no longer stay closed. i think the price of this is a lot considering how small the palette is and how little product you are actually getting. am i disappointed by this? ya i am, i've been trying to get my hands on it for a while now and i was expecting a better formula considering the price. is it the worst eye shadow ever? no, i've defiantly tried worse, i'm just salty about how much this is for a sub par product. would i recommend it? eh....maybe if you are just starting out with using colored eye shadows. if you use a lot of colorful eye shadows all the time, then this isn't going to be for you. yes they are for the most part matte, which is cool, but it's just not an amazing formula.

Urban Decay Elements Eye Shadow Palette

hello everyone, today i will be reviewing the urban decay elements eye shadow palette. this palette costs $65.00 CND from sephora. there are 20 eye shadows with metallics, mattes and satins with microglitter. the eye shadows in the outer ring are 0.03 ounces, the inner ring eye shadows are 0.02 ounces and the single eye shadow in the centre is 0.05 ounces.
so here are what the shadows look like in the palette. below i will post the swatches i did. these were done with just a finger.

first up we have heavy water, sapphire dream, electirc air and antidote.
next is secret keeper, earthbound, elemental and volcanic
next is lioness, fire started, dream waver and ego
next is hex remedy, fortune teller, silver burn and fools gold
finally we have moon rock, tectonic and luna

ok so on to the review. first off a few of these are dupes for other urban decay eye shadows. i feel like heavy water and sapphire dream are VERY similar to the two blue shades in the urban decay kristen leanne palette. they are nice colors so i'm not terribly mad at that. next fortune teller looks exactly like the urban decay single eye shadow in lounge. finally ego looks like a lot like the urban decay single eye shadow in the 1985, it even performs in a similar way.
the pigmentation on these is hit or miss when using a brush. most of the shades in the centre ring need a wet brush or a finger to bring out the pigmentation. there are only three matte shades in this palette, everything else is either shimmer or has microglitter. be warned, the shadows with microgltter have a lot of glitter fallout, which is a pain in the butt to get rid of. you can sort of see what i mean from one of my swatches how even after using makeup remover my arm and hand are still covered in glitter particles.
the colors in here are pretty, and i feel like you could get a decent amount of looks with it. i will say though that this isn't a must have, especially with how much of a pain these eye shadows are to work with. the quality of this is no where near that of the born to run or even the kristen leanne palette.

Rimmel Magnif'eyes Spice Edition Eye Shadow Palette

hello everyone, today i will be reviewing the rimmel magni'eyes eye shadow palette in spice. there are 12 eye shadows in this palette with 6 mattes and 6 shimmers. there is 0.49 ounces of product and this is made in china. there are at least five different palettes in the magni'eyes range.

here are the swatches starting on the left side of the palette. sadly the eye shadows don't have names. so here are the first four.

here are the next four.

and here are the final four.

i'm actually really surprised as to how well the mattes perform in this palette. most drugstore eye shadow palettes i have tried, the matte shades are a let down. both mattes and shimmers in this palette are smooth, pigmented and easy to work with. however, a couple of the shimmer shades are very similar as you can see from the swatches and this does look that way on the eye. i do wish that there was a dark matte brown but that is just personal preference. besides that i'm actually pretty impressed with this palette and plan on getting more of these in the future. it is a little bit expensive for drugstore, about $14CND but i'm not super mad at it.

Trestique Lip Glaze

hello everyone, today i am going to review the trestique lip glaze in the shade english rose. now i got mine as a sample in one of my ipsy glam bags, but you can actually buy a full size of this from sephora. the full size of this is $32.00 CND and you get 0.028 ounces of product as well as a lip primer that has 0.04 ounces of product. there are currently only 6 shades in the range.

here is the swatch. it is a bit sheet but mind you, they are supposed to be. this makes it perfect for everyday wear. the bullet is quite small making it a bit of pain to apply, i defiantly need a mirror to see what i'm doing. i really like how this feels on the lips, you barely notice it's there. this also doesn't have a scent or a weird taste which i don't know about you, but it's a huge bonus for me! i hate it when lip products have a strong scent. now because this is a basically a lip crayon this doesn't last super long and defiantly doesn't make it through eating or drinking. however, this does make this a fairly good lip product to take with you on the go or if you want something sheer. i also need to mention the packaging. i love how they made it look like a little lip pencil it's so cute. i wouldn't mind getting a full size of this, i do wish though that there were more shades to choose from.

MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara

Hello everyone, today I will be reviewing the MAC False Lashes Mascara in Extreme Black. I got a sample size of this in of my Ipsy glam bags. A full size of this will cost $30.00 CND and you would get 8 grams of product. It claims to be volumizing, curling, lengthening, long wearing and smudge proof.
First off, I am not a fan of the wand. It's your typical spoolie like mascara wand I've just never been a fan of that type of mascara wand. The formula is ok, not worth $30 in my opinion as I've tried drug store brands that perform similar. It doesn't really make my lashes look any longer, though it does make them look a bit thicker. It didn't transfer to my lower lashes like some mascaras do, and it did dry down fairly quick. This also doesn't make my lashes feel crusty and heavy like many mascaras I have tried do. I mean I do like this mascara but it's $30! That's a lot of money for something I would wear maybe three days a week. It's not worth it if you ask me.

Smashbox Covershot Prism Eye Shadow Palette

hello everyone, today i will be reviewing the smashbox covershot eye shadow palette in prism. you can get this at sephora or shopper drug mart for $35.00 CND. you get .21 ounces of eye shadow and it is made in italy. how fancy! there are as you can see 8 eye shadows. one of this is a matte and the rest are shimmer/metallic.

first up we have rising sun, astro not, gimme space and prism break.
next is rocket star, bratmosphere, tarot-fy and gal palace.

i'm bummed that the photos aren't doing the shades astro not and rocket star justice. these super pretty eye shadows, especially when topped on something else. you do need to use your fingers with these two though, as it states on the packaging. astro not is a off white with a gold shift that changes in the light and rocket star is a white with a blue/purple shift. the formula of these eye shadows are surprisingly great, as i've heard how hit or miss smashbox can be with their shadows. they are pigmented, creamy and blend out pretty well. i love how they are laid out kind of in two separate quads and the size is perfect for travel. i love these so much that i want to get the rest of the covershot series. christmas is coming folks, can you guess what's on my list?
have any of you tried the smashbox covershot eye shadow palettes? which one is your favorite?

Stila Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow

Hello everyone! Today I will be reviewing the Stila Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow. The shade I have here is called cloud and is a light lilac with gold shimmer. You get 0.153 fluid ounces of product and it costs $31.00CND. The claims is that this is long wearing, smooth, light wearing with a barely there feel and has minimal fallout. It can be worn alone or on top of another eye shadow.

Look at how gorgeous this is! I am seriously in love with this product and want to get more of them. It is pretty long wearing, dries down pretty quickly and doesn't transfer to the upper lid. I had basically no fallout when I applied this and it was super comfortable. It honestly didn't feel like I had anything on. I even fell asleep with this on forgetting that I was wearing it. I feel like these are great to add a pop of shimmer to look or even just to wear alone to give a really nice shimmery eye. I need more of these!

*EDIT* I bought another one of these and thought I would show you the swatch of it.

The shade here is called Vivid Sapphire. It performs basically the same as Cloud does.

This is super pretty. Depending on the light it can look blue or the purple from the glitter.

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor

Hello everyone, today I will be reviewing the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor. The shade I have here is called HD Embrace. This was made in the USA and you get 0.2 fluid ounces of product. Depending on where you buy this, it seems to range from $9 - $12CND.

Here is the swatch of the liquid lipstick. It's a light nude pink, slightly lighter than my natural lip color which makes is super wearable. The formula is ok not my favorite that's for sure. It takes this lipstick a long time to set about 20 minutes or more and during that time it's a sticky glossy feeling. Once this does finally dry down you hardly notice that your wearing anything, at least until you eat or drink something. It doesn't make the lips feel dry which is a plus for me as I hate it when liquid lipsticks dry out my lips. This isn't totally transfer proof which depending on your taste could be a good or bad thing. I don't mind it transferring depending on the situation. Sometimes I just want to eat a piece of pizza and have my lipstick still be there. I'm also not a huge fan of the smell. Most liquid lipsticks that smell, that smell tends to go away as it dries, with this one not so much. It smells sickly sweet and chemically. Not nice that's for sure. It's not something I would buy again unless there was a shade I just had to have (which thus far there isn't) and it's  just not a lipstick I reach for that much. Not with how long it takes to dry down. I like my lipsticks to dry down pretty quickly. Anywho, have any of you tried this lipstick? What do you think of it?

Callyssee Caffeine Rush Nourishing Sheet Mask

Hello everyone today I will be reviewing the Callyssee Caffeine Rush Nourishing Sheet Mask. I got this in one of my Ipsy Glam bags, I'm not totally sure which one but it might have been June's? Anyway you can buy a three pack of this mask from the Callyssee website for $28.50USD.  Now I can't find out to much information about the product like if it's cruelty free or anything, all I know is that the company claims to use organic coffee in their masks. The mask is also made in Korea.
Their claims to be that Argan Kernal Oil, Soybean Seed Extract, Coffea Arabica Seed Extract and Ginseng Root Extract in this mask. It claims that my skin will look more vibrant, happy and beautiful.
While I wouldn't say that my face looks more vibrant or anything like that, I will say that it does make my face feel smooth and moisturized. I'm not super keen on the smell as to me it just smells like alcohol or the fact that the hole for the mouth is huge. Like the hole not only has space for my mouth but also my chin, so trying to place the mask in a way that it covers my chin is a bit of a pain. I'm not super mad at this mask as like I said it makes my skin feel nice, but it's not something I'm going to go out of my way to buy. I feel like $30 is a bit much for three masks. I wouldn't be mad though if I got more in on of my Ipsy bags.

OFRA Cosmetics Single Eye Shadow

Hello everyone, today I will be reviewing the OFRA Cosmetics eye shadow single in the shade Blue Jeans. I got this eye shadow from OFRA in my August Ipsy Glam bag, which surprised me as this is full sized! There is 4 grams of product and it costs $15.00USD from the OFRA website.

Please excuse the scratch on my arm, I have no idea where that came from. Anyway here are the swatches. The first one is done just a finger and the one below it is done with a brush.
This is a super pretty eye shadow and I'm glad I got it in my glam bag. It's pretty pigmented and easy to work with. You can use it with or without a base. I'm curious to know if all of OFRA's eye shadows are as good as this. I would love to try more but it's a bit to expensive for me. Converting to Canadian it would be about a $20.00 eye shadow and that doesn't count shipping, taxes and customs. If you live in the US then maybe you should give this a try, thus far OFRA eye shadows seem decent.

meech and mia pressed eye shadow

hello everyone today i will be reviewing the meech and mia pressed eye shadow single in the shade taupe. i got this in one of my ipsy glam...
